Dentures Are Uncomfortable - Dr. Shalaby Discusses How A Full Arch is the Best Solution

Three Steps to a Complete, Spectacular Smile

Step 1: Putting the “Plan” in Full Mouth Dental Implants
If you want to see if you qualify for full mouth dental implants—most patients do—schedule your free, personalized consultation with our team. We’ll discuss your ideal smile, complete a thorough dental health assessment, and capture detailed 3D images of your mouth with our cone beam CT (CBCT) scanner, which emits a fraction of the radiation of conventional scanners. With all of this information, we’ll establish whether you’re already a candidate for implants or require some related preliminary treatments. If your jawbone has receded, we can rebuild it through bone grafting, which can include a sinus lift or ridge augmentation, to give it the strength and mass to hold implants.

During bone grafting we sometimes use a surgical stent to determine the width and height of your jawbone. Manufactured by Anatomage, this versatile tool can later be used as a precise surgical guide during your implant placement procedure. With it we can perform placement with pinpoint accuracy. Apart from bone grafting, we may need to do tooth extractions to make space for your dental implants, should you have any remaining unhealthy teeth. Once we determine all necessary aspects of your treatment, we can schedule placement of your full mouth dental implants for your next visit!

Step 2: Same-Day Placement and Restoration
When you return for your implant procedure, your comfort is our top priority. We offer multiple sedation options, including IV sedation, oral sedation, nitrous oxide (“laughing gas”), and local anesthesia to help you stay anxiety-free and pain-free during your procedure. After you’re comfortably sedated, we’ll first conveniently complete any initial required treatments in the same visit before beginning the implant placement itself. We then bring your customized surgical guides into the process.

The guides have holes that show us exactly where to place your implants, and at what depth and angle, for a stable, comfortable fit. We insert the screw-like dental implants—as few as needed for a secure fit—through those holes and into your jawbone. This not only makes the process more precise but faster as well, because the insertion areas are already highlighted for us. Our team uses implants supplied by leading manufacturers like Straumann.

As the final step for this visit, we’ll put temporary implant bridges in your mouth, giving you the look and function of a full set of teeth while your insertion sites heal. You’ll begin to enjoy life again almost immediately!

What is the Process of Receiving a Dental Implant - Dr. Shalaby Dives in to Answer Your Questions

Step 3: Starting Your Life Over
Your implant insertion sites may take four or more months to heal. During that phase of your treatment your implants will meld permanently with your jawbone in a process known as osseointegration. You’ll be able to enjoy normal meals and conversations during your recovery. After you’ve fully healed, you’ll come back to our office to receive your final restorations. These will be strong, shiny, beautiful teeth that can last a lifetime if you give them proper care. That means many years of confident smiles and laughter, satisfying meals, and worry-free conversations! All the things you’ve been missing out on.
